Psychotherapy with children and adolescents can help with self-esteem issues, oppositional problems, school and grades, as well as depression, anxiety and anger. With younger children, I often use play therapy techniques because children heal and express themselves best through imaginative play.
The developmental tasks of children and adolescents are different at different ages. For example, as any parent knows, children and adolescents manifest their suffering in vastly different ways than adults. In my experience, a proper assessment of the child’s or adolescent’s psyche is crucial to his or her subsequent therapy. Parents should expect two or three sessions in the beginning when I can gather information from Mom and/or Dad, and the children involved. After that, I design a therapy plan and we begin !

On a deeper level, their struggles usually have to do with encountering The Other in oneself. Jungian theory gives me (us) the tools to help couples problem-solve, symbolize, and experience meaning in their relationship. Additionally, I have been able to help many couples who are struggling through issues that often emerge in blended families.
